Eco-towns to create Hampshire jobs or bad thing?
« Thread Started on Jul 27, 2009, 2:41pm »

Hi everyone

I know it’s been in the news for a while, but I’ve actually only today spent some time reading up on the eco-town projects planned for East Hampshire as well as three other areas in the UK.
Do you guys think this is a good thing and that it will create plenty of jobs or will it only ruin the countryside?
To be honest, I hear about eco-friendly this and low-carbon that…recycling, solar panels etc and yet although I implement recycling into my daily life, I can’t do very much else as my house is not suited to do so.
And I would love to actually live in a house that is adjusted to be eco-friendly with all the latest gadgets to contribute to save electricity etc.
I would not very well like it if the same house I am living in is contributing to ruining something else while saving electricity. How sad.

Talk again soon,
Jess

I really am just in two minds about it all to be honest Jessica.

Using renewable energy is just a fantastic idea - stops us using fossil fuels and lowers our energy bills. That seems like a win win situation but why do you have to build an extra 5000 homes for it? Can't you develop existing properties? It would surely be cheaper then starting from scratch? Jobs in Hampshire will still be created in the process but it will also save our countryside.

Would you be happy to have solar panels put on your home? I don't know if they are somethings you can add to your property anytime or whether they really have to be installed when first building. But if you can install them anytime then I would just opt to change existing properties! What do you think?

That it my 2 cents anyway haha
